We hosted our Biology-focused Speaker Event earlier this week! The event provided a platform for individuals from UCLA, Cornell, UCSF, and more to share their insights and experiences in the field of biology and medicine.

One of the highlights of the event was the discussion on various programs and majors available to biology enthusiasts. The speakers shed light on exciting disciplines such as psychobiology, which explores the intersection of psychology and biology, offering a unique perspective on human behavior and cognition.

Another fascinating program discussed during the event was the UCLA CityLab. This program provides students with an opportunity to engage in hands-on research in biotechnology alongside undergrads. Students get valuable insight in lab experience through this program.

The speakers also emphasized the importance of research opportunities during college. They highlighted the numerous benefits of getting involved in research projects, such as gaining practical experience, developing critical thinking skills, and building a strong foundation for future academic and professional pursuits.

Attendees were encouraged to actively seek out research opportunities and make the most of the resources available at their respective institutions. The speakers shared their personal experiences, highlighting the transformative impact that research had on their own educational journeys.

Our event was also a great networking opportunity. Attendees had the chance to connect with speakers and fellow biology enthusiasts, fostering new relationships and potential collaborations.

Overall, our workshop provided a comprehensive overview of various programs, majors, and research opportunities in the field of biology. It served as a valuable resource for students looking to explore different paths within the discipline and gain insights from experts in the field.

See below for some key takeaways from the workshop!

"There aren't majors in med school, you get exposed to all the specialties and you choose one at the end" - Abraham D.

"I would advise students to apply themselves to many diverse topics in middle and high school to figure out their areas of interest. " - Abraham D.

"The ChemE program at Cornell wants us to develop our professional profile as well, which has been really helpful" - Sofia P.

"Going into college with a resume is very helpful" - Sofia P.

"Through UCLA CityLab students get hands-on lab experience alongside UCLA students" - Grace T.

"I researched at my local university during high school, which helped me figure out what I wanted to do in college" - Abraham D.
