IntelliHer 2024 Recap

2024 has been an incredible year for IntelliHer! We’ve expanded our initiatives to empower young women and marginalized groups in STEM through diverse workshops, impactful collaborations, and our first-ever summer camps. Here’s a look back at what we’ve accomplished together this year and a glimpse of what’s to come.

Unique Workshops for Students

In 2024, we worked to diversify our educational offerings, aiming to cater to a broader array of interests and career aspirations among students. Throughout the year, Intelliher organized a series of diverse workshops tailored to expand opportunities for students across multiple fields. We hosted a Biology and Medicine workshop to introduce students to specific career paths, a competition math workshop to prepare students for contests, and....

a Dance workshop?

That's right! We partnered with STEM From Dance, an organization that empowers girls of color to unlock their joy, power, and potential in STEM fields, to host a STEM + Dance Workshop. Students learned about the intersection between the fields, more about STEM Dance, and ways to get involved.

Impactful Collaborations

This year, we formed new partnerships with a variety of organizations making a global impact.

Intro to VC and Entrepreneurship Workshop with Girls Into VC

We collaborated with the Girls into VC, an organization with over 4k members aiming to increase the number of women in venture capital, to host an Intro to VC and Entrepreneurship Workshop. This workshop included an interactive session with Girls Into VC Founder Isabella Mandis that covered essential skills such as investment analysis, business strategy, and networking. Participants not only gained valuable insights into venture capital, a subject not often taught before college but also had the opportunity to connect with industry professionals such as Shea Tate-Di Donna who shared their personal journeys and offered guidance. We hope these interactions boosted students' confidence to pursue careers in finance and entrepreneurship.

Research Speaker Event with AstraFemina

We also hosted a Research Speaker Event featuring experts from institutions, including NASA, who shared their groundbreaking work with attendees. This event was primarily successful due to our partnership with AstraFemina, a collective of prominent leaders – including astronauts, academic professionals, and industry innovators – working to encourage women to pursue STEM.

AI Ethics Seminar with Encode Justice

As the world increasingly focuses on artificial intelligence (AI), the ethical implications of this transformative technology have become more pressing than ever. With AI shaping everything from healthcare to justice systems, ensuring its responsible development is not just an academic exercise—it’s a societal imperative.

Recognizing this, IntelliHer reached out to Encode Justice, a TIME-featured organization of over 1300 students across 40 U.S. states and 30 countries mobilizing policymakers and the public for a future of equitable artificial intelligence. We partnered with an Encode Justice chapter to host an AI Ethics Seminar. This event brought students together to learn how to navigate the intersection of innovation and responsibility. We aimed to equip students with the essential knowledge required to navigate the complex ethical landscape associated with AI applications, as well as help develop ideas about projects in the area.

Sustainability and Climate Change Workshop With Climate Cardinals

We also hosted a Sustainability and Climate Change Workshop in collaboration with Climate Cardinals to tackle pressing environmental issues and inspire meaningful action. The workshop aimed to address pressing environmental issues and foster a deeper understanding of sustainability among students. In the workshop, attendees engaged in discussions about the development of passion projects that not only raise awareness but also contribute tangibly to sustainability efforts. One of the central themes discussed during the workshops was the importance of hands-on initiatives. Participants were encouraged to identify personal interests and translate those into actionable projects that promote sustainable practices. For example, ideas emerged around community gardening, waste reduction campaigns, and renewable energy awareness efforts.

Summer Camps

This year marked an exciting milestone for IntelliHer as we hosted our first-ever summer camps in coding and research. These week-long programs provided students with hands-on opportunities to explore their passions, develop new skills, and connect with inspiring leaders in STEM.

The Research Paper Writing Camp guided students through the process of researching, writing, and publishing their own STEM-focused papers. Participants learned essential research skills and received mentorship from IntelliHer Leads who shared their experiences and expertise. Students wrote papers on extraterrestrial life, chemistry concepts, and more!

The Machine Learning and Coding Camp offered an accessible introduction to programming and artificial intelligence, with no prior coding experience required. Students explored cutting-edge topics, worked on their own machine learning projects, and engaged with expert guest speakers who brought the field to life. They also had the unique opportunity to hear from speakers like Tessa Brown, CEO of Germ Network, who shared invaluable insights into entrepreneurship and innovation. Students created webpages about sustainable cities, personal websites, and more!

At the conclusion of both camps, participants created their own passion projects and earned a certificate of completion to celebrate their accomplishments.

Interviews With Inspiring Women

This year, IntelliHer began interviews of female leaders in a variety of fields for our blog. We had the privilege of hearing from two remarkable leaders—Shea Tate-Di Donna and Kaego Ogbechie Rust, learning their invaluable insights about the worlds of finance, entrepreneurship, and leadership. We also got the chance to interview Ananya Bal, a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon University working on impactful robotics research. Check out these interviews on our blog!

Looking Ahead: The Future of IntelliHer

As we move into 2025, we’re excited to expand our impact even further. Stay tuned for more workshops, groundbreaking collaborations, and innovative camps designed to inspire the next generation of leaders in STEM. Keep an eye out for our AI tool that's in-the-works!

Thank you for being a part of IntelliHer’s journey in 2024!
